Suraya is an award winning journalist. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Suraya started her career as a journalist, in 1994 as an Assignment Editor/Writer/Field Producer/Production Assistant/Researcher for KGO (ABC) & KPIX (CBS) in the San Francisco Bay Area. Suraya moved on to being a Reporter/Associate Producer for KCBA (FOX)/KION (CBS) in Salinas, California in 1997. In 1999, Suraya became the South Valley Bureau Chief & Fill in Weekend Anchor for KFSN in Fresno, California. In 2001, Suraya became the Investigative/Special Assignment Reporter for the CBS/UPN station in Detroit, Michigan. Finally since 2002, Suraya came home to become a General Assignment Reporter covering the Southern California region where she grew up.
Suraya has covered local, regional, national, and international stories in her years as a journalist, with her reports being featured on CNN, many CBS affiliates, NewsPath, CBS Evening News, CBS Up to the Minute, World News Now, NewsOne, and many ABC affiliates. Suraya has covered stories that range from the original Carmageddon during the closure of the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, to the tragic shootings at the movie theater in Aurora Colorado and the elementary school in Sandy Hook Connecticut.
In her free time, Suraya is involved with a number of local charity and community organizations.
